E. M. (Mitte 60)

I started learning to play the viola already over the age of 60. Julia skilfully adapts her instructions and suggestions to this situation and takes into account limitations in mobility and vision. We play often together as a duo, which is challenging, provides additional guidance and is a lot of fun at the same time.

Christina U, (37)

I started to learn to play the violin through my daughter. At first I tried to teach myself, but I realised that it didn't work very well and that I needed professional help. That's how I came to Ms. Oh. Her lessons are great. She is very patient and even if a question comes up later at home, she is always ready to help and gives us advice and support!
Through the long and difficult Corona period in particular, she accompanied us so well and always supported us in a very committed way! Simply great! Both my daughter and I have made a lot of progress and love playing! We absolutely recommend her!

My teaching philosophy

My approach to violin and viola lessons is centered around your enjoyment and motivation to learn, while emphasizing the importance of playing with a relaxed body, regardless of your current level.

I firmly believe that maintaining curiosity in learning something new, whether it's a new skill or a new piece, combined with motivation and determination to practice efficiently and systematically, will undoubtedly lead to progress. And any progress you make is valuable and means another step towards a better playing experience.

The more you play and improve, the easier and faster it will become for you to "deconstruct" a piece at first sight and eventually master it. And the best part is when you can finally play a piece exactly as you envision it, the feeling of fulfillment is simply indescribable.

Unfortunately, this process may not always run as seamlessly and steadily as you wish. Moreover, you need time and a lot of patience. Throughout my years of playing a musical instrument, I have experienced periods of disinterest, some degree of stage fright, compromised posture that interfered with performing a specific technique, and encountered obstacles while tackling a passage in a piece or attempting to perfect a particular skill.

Overcoming each of these hurdles was a challenge, and as I struggled with them, I was always trying to figure out why a problem was occurring in the first place. In the end, it was worth it, because I learned to overcome these hardships and learned that these problems were exactly the dilemmas, big and small, that many people face on their way to becoming professional musicians. Based on these experiences and my musical journey from Korea, India, France, and Germany, I am glad to share my knowledge and expertise with my students since 16 years.

My greatest joy and motivation come from helping you achieve your individual goals by providing guidance on how to reach them, maintaining your interest, and teaching you to improve your playing.
